A Model 3 or Model Y parked in open sun heats up from the sides and the back glass. Ceramic film on the doors and rear glass rejects infrared rather than absorbing it, which keeps the seats and the steering wheel from getting as hot and shortens the time the climate system runs.
Dyed film absorbs heat and eventually turns purple. Ceramic rejects heat and holds its color, which is why it is the only film used on Teslas here.
Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X and Cybertruck are each patterned separately and priced per model. The rear glass on every one is done as a single sheet.
Camera zones are masked and kept clear, and the non-metallic film lets the phone key, GPS and cellular signals through.

Ceramic rejects infrared heat; dyed film absorbs it and radiates it into the cabin. Dyed film also fades toward purple over the years, while ceramic keeps its shade. On a Tesla that sits in the sun, that difference is the whole reason to tint.

No. The windshield camera cluster and the side repeaters are masked and the film stops short of them. Ceramic film contains no metal, so the phone key, cellular data and GPS are not affected and Autopilot sees what it saw before.
