What is the hardest part of tinting a Model S?
The frameless door glass. On most cars the top edge of the film tucks into a frame; on the S it is right there in view, so it has to be cut and finished cleanly. The long window also needs careful shrinking so the film follows the curve without creases. It is why the S has its own quote.
How far is Midway City from Audio MotorSports in Carson?
About 17 miles, which works out to around 35 to 40 minutes outside rush hour. A Midway City owner can book a morning slot and be back for the afternoon. The shop has tinted Teslas for people who drove in from San Diego, so this is an easy distance by comparison.
Does ceramic film interfere with the Model S cameras or sensors?
No. The forward cameras look through a clear window in the windshield, the pillar and fender cameras are not covered, and the sensors in the bumpers are nowhere near the glass. Ceramic film has no metal content, so the phone key, GPS and cellular connection work as before.
Can the fronts on a Model S be tinted, and how dark?
Yes, at the California legal shade for front door windows. That still cuts glare and heat noticeably. The rear doors, and the hatch glass have no such limit and can go darker. Nick will show you shade samples on your own car so the front and rear look balanced.
Is remote start or an alarm something you can add to a Tesla visit?
Remote start is not needed on a Tesla, but the shop installs it on other vehicles, and car alarm installation, GPS tracker installation and dash camera installation are all available for the Tesla itself. Book both jobs together and the bay time will be set aside for them.
